PruneFox product documentation

Know where spend moves.
Act before it compounds.

PruneFox gives engineering, finance, and platform teams one place to review cloud and AI costs, explain changes, protect budgets, and send the right action to the right owner.

Start here

Connect one source.
Answer one real cost question.
Verify the reporting period, save the useful view, and create a guardrail for the next material change.

01 / Product

What you can do

Move from a portfolio-level change to the service, resource, or team responsible—without rebuilding the question.
01

Cost overview

See total spend, forecast, budget position, recent changes, and data freshness in one starting view.

02

Spend explorer

Compare periods, then move from provider to account, subscription, project, service, SKU, meter, and resource.

03

Budgets & forecasts

Track burn, remaining allocation, projected month-end spend, and thresholds for the scope you own.

04

Anomaly review

Review unexpected changes, understand the largest drivers, record context, and assign an owner.

05

Saved views

Keep repeatable filters and layouts ready for weekly reviews, team scorecards, and recurring investigations.

06

Alerts & reports

Route important budget and anomaly signals to the product, Slack, or email, and export the view when needed.

07

Connections

Add and verify read-only cost sources, check their latest completed date, and manage connection status.

08

People & access

Invite teammates and give each person the workspace role required for product, billing, or administrative work.

02 / Quick start

From signup to first signal

Start with one provider and one decision. Add more sources after the first workflow is useful.
  1. 01

    Create your workspace

Use Free signup, name the workspace, and confirm the default currency and reporting time zone.

  2. 02

    Invite the right people

Add engineering, finance, and platform teammates. Give each person only the role they need.

  3. 03

    Connect one cost source

Open Connections, choose a provider, follow its read-only setup checklist, and run Test connection.

  4. 04

    Wait for the first import

The connection page shows progress, the latest completed date, and whether any action is required.

  5. 05

    Review and save the view

Confirm the provider, date range, comparison, and cost basis before saving the view for repeat use.

  6. 06

    Set the first guardrail

Create a budget or anomaly alert, choose its recipients, and verify Slack or email delivery.

05 / Daily use

Read every number in context

Provider, reporting window, currency, cost basis, and freshness should stay visible throughout a review.
PracticeWhat to do
Check freshness first

Confirm the latest completed date before comparing totals. Recent provider data can still change.

Compare like with like

Keep provider, date window, currency, and cost basis consistent when reviewing a period-over-period change.

Move from total to owner

Start with the change, then narrow by account or subscription, service, project, and resource until an owner is clear.

Save repeatable questions

Save the filters used in weekly reviews so the same team sees the same scope each time.

Record the decision

Add context and an owner to an anomaly so the next reviewer can see what changed and what happens next.

06 / Alerts & reports

Turn review into action

Choose the signal, owner, and delivery channel. Keep alerts narrow enough that the recipient knows what to do next.
01

Budget thresholds

Notify recipients when spend or forecast crosses the percentage or amount you define.

02

Anomaly signals

Notify the responsible team when a material change needs investigation.

03

In-app inbox

Keep an auditable product record of each notification and its current state.

04

Slack delivery

Send concise alerts to the channel where the responsible team already works.

05

Email delivery

Send independent email notifications to operational or finance recipients.

06

Exports

Download the currently filtered view for an approved offline review or reconciliation workflow.

07 / Access & security

Read-only by design. Controlled by your workspace.

Use dedicated provider access, review membership regularly, and remove connections or users when they are no longer required.

Provider permissions

PruneFox asks for billing and usage read access. Do not grant resource creation, deletion, deployment, or account-administration permissions.

Workspace roles

Owners and administrators manage membership and connections. Give viewers, editors, and billing users only the access needed for their work.

Connection details

Saved credentials are not displayed back to users. Rotate or revoke provider access from the connection page and the provider account.

Account safety

Use a strong unique password, enable the account protections available to your organization, and report unexpected access immediately.
