Outcome and audience

For engineering, finance, and FinOps reviewers beginning a daily, weekly, or monthly cost review.

Before you begin

At least one eligible connection must have a generated cost view. With multiple sources and no stored choice, select a provider before cost data loads.

Where to go

Open Overview from Monitor.

Complete the workflow

Keep the selected workspace, provider, period, currency, cost basis, and data-through date visible as you work.

  1. Confirm workspace and selected provider.
  2. Read date range, comparison, currency, cost basis, and data-through date.
  3. Review the selected-period total and comparison movement.
  4. Inspect the top service changes and any budget or anomaly context supported for that source.
  5. Open Spend Explorer for the dimension that needs investigation.

Interpret the result

All providers means the authorized connected providers included in the returned view; it never includes an unavailable source or silently converts currencies.

Loading, empty, partial, and unavailable states

Loading preserves the current scope. Empty means no records match the authorized scope. Partial or stale data keeps its completed-through boundary visible. Unavailable or permission-denied states explain the missing prerequisite and never substitute zero or another provider.

Provider differences

Provider mix and secondary panels depend on connected sources, supplied dimensions, and completed coverage.

Synthetic example

Illustrative example · synthetic data Example: Northstar Labs sees a 9% weekly increase across two authorized sources, with AWS compute as the largest completed-period service change.

Common mistakes

Do not compare unlike currencies or cost bases, read a partial period as final, or treat a missing provider as zero spend.
